There are times in one’s life when one comes upon little hidden gems in nature. Like the place below. The photo was taken from the grounds of the Lakshmi Narayan temple in Freeport, Trinidad. It could simply be open land or owned by the people who lived in the few houses dotted here and there. Either way, I thought how lucky for them to live in such an idyllic location. Sunrises and sunsets must be magnificent. I’d never leave.

Last Saturday, as we (my family and I) were getting closer to our destination, the landscape became more ‘shire’ like. Think Trini Shire in Middle Earth. As we turned into Calcutta No.1 in Freeport, the roads became narrower and we were greeted with lush green rolling hills and an azure sky to complement them – my two favourite colours working together to provide a treat for the eyes. Photos were taken while standing in the car park.

I’d like to visit again some time. But next time I’d bring my proper camera. Yes, the Samsung S23 took some nice photos but this kind of landscape requires a camera that sharpens the image so the trees and the leaves look less painted – like the photo below.

Yes, this is a photo, not a painting. The light was changing as the clouds were rolling in. In Trinidad it also gets dark as 6:00 PM approaches. I took this one as I wandered around the temple grounds in search of the famed peacocks.
I wish I’d taken photos of the temple itself. It is absolutely beautiful with the architecture and nature motifs, however, it is such a sprawling property that it would take one a couple of hours to truly walk around and admire the place. It is supposed to be more beautiful at night when it’s all lit up but we didn’t stay since we were not familiar with the area.

There’s also the Namaste India restaurant on the grounds run by some lovely ladies who handled taking orders for both dine in and take out. It’s not fancy so don’t go looking for a 5 star dining experience. But the food is vegetarian, it’s delicious and satisfying for a good price. There are no alcoholic drinks since the restaurant is on the temple grounds. No reservations required.
I must admit though that we really did go all that way for the food and I’m not ashamed to say it. My sisters and I were actually laughing about that as we were heading there. It seems food is our incentive to leave the house and go somewhere we have never been.
All in all, it was a nice trip. I’m looking forward to visiting again someday.
Let me know what you think about the photos.
